Web Accelerator Install Instructions PDF Print E-mail

Speed Stream Web Accelerator is a service that uses compression and cache technology to reduce the size of web pages before they reach your computer therefore decreasing the time it takes to load the page. This software will accelerate HTML, Javascript, JPEG, GIFs, BMPs, text and Email. It will NOT accelerate streaming media, secure websites, file attachments, digital music and digital photos.

After you have downloaded the Web Accelerator program to your desktop, follow the instructions below for installing and setting it up.

Install Instructions:
NOTE: Some images are thumbnails, click to see larger picture.
1. Find the file you downloaded on your desktop and double-click the file to execute it.
2. A normal windows install will start, click Next on the Welcome to SCR Online Web Accelerator Setup program.
 Install Step 1
3. Read the End User License Agreement then click the box that you have read and accept the terms then click Next.
 Install Step 2
4. The install will show the destination folder already set, it is recommended that you leave it as is then click Next.
 Install Step 3
5. Then the software will install onto your system as below:
Install Step 4
6. When the picture below comes up, you will see a picture showing that the software will be accessible from your taskbar (where your time is) by clicking on it. Once you have read that, click on the Finish button.
 Install Step 5
Setup Instructions:
1. Immediately after you click finish, the SCR Accelerator Login will come up as pictured below. Enter your username and password (will be the same as your dial up username and password), leaving the default settings as below. (If you are not sure of your username and password, contact us and we will assist you.)
 Setup Step 1
2. When you click OK the service will start and you will see the icon for it in your taskbar (with your time).
Setup Step 2
3. Click on the icon from the taskbar and select settings. This is where you set the amount of compression for images. We recommend that you leave the setting as it is for now. You can access this at anytime that you are surfing to speed up pages or improve image quality. Once you have surfed with it for a while, you will have more of an idea of what setting is best for you.

To change the setting click on the gray rectangle on the line and drag it back and forth. Pay attention to the images above too see the effect it has on the images as you go back and forth. This will give you an idea of how the images will look on the pages. This is dependant on how each individual image is already compressed. Images that have been compressed already will not be as clear as images that have not.

Click OK when you have set it and are ready to try it out.
Setup Step 3
4. The next step is to get connected via your normal dial up procedure. Open your dialer and click Dial or Connect. Your dial up will act as it always has, dialing the number, verifying your username and password then once connecting putting the dial up icons in your tasktray as show below:
Setup Step 4
NOTE: Your computer may not display these dialogue balloons but there will always be some sort of image in the tasktray that will indicate you are connected. To identify any of the icons in your tasktray, hover your mouse pointer over the icon and a text tag will show up to tell you what it is.
5. Now that you are connected, the Web Accelerator software should connect on its own and indicate that by showing a light and/or a dialogue balloon as shown below:
Setup Step 5
6. Next you will want to open up a browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Link opens in a new window and do some surfing. Notice the quality of the images on the pages. If the image quality is good and you want to speed up page loads, click on the Speed Stream Web Accelerator icon in the tasktray and select Settings. Adjust the compression towards the Low (Faster) then go to another page and see how that looks. Remember that you can turn this off at any time by clicking the icon and selecting Stop Web Accelerator. You can access Statistics on the amount of data that you have cut down by selecting Statistics.
