Email: *****SPAM***** PDF Print E-mail

I get a lot of E-mails that have *****SPAM***** in the subject line, what can I do to get rid of them?

The reason you get these emails is because our spam filters are identifying those emails as spam.  Due to the nature of spam filtering we don't want to just delete them for you because it could be email that's incorrectly identified.

The best thing to do is setup a filter on your mail client that will move these emails to a different folder on your computer for later review.  However, you can have the filter completely delete the email as well if you are comfortable with the fact that you may delete legitimate mail.

The way to setup filters depends on the client you are using.  We have instructions for setting up filters in Outlook Express and Thunderbird clients here.

Outlook Express:

  • Right Click on "Local Folders"
  • Click on "New Folder"
  • Type "Spam" without the quotes
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Tools"
  • Point to "Message Rules"
  • Click on "Mail"
  • Place a check mark in the box next to "Where the Subject line contains specific words"
  • Place a check mark in the box next to "Move it to the specified folder"
  • In the 3rd window down click on the link "contains specific words"
  • In the window that comes up type "*****SPAM*****" without the quotes.
  • Click "OK"
  • Click on the "specified" link
  • In the window that comes up make sure the "spam" folder is selected
  • Click "OK"
  • In the 4th window type "SCR Spam Filter" without the quotes
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Apply now"
  • Click "Apply now"
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Close"
  • Click "OK"

Thunderbird:

  • Right click on "Local Folders"
  • Type "Spam" (without the quotes) in the window
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Tools"
  • Click "Message Filters"
  • Click "New"
  • Type "SCR Spam Filter" in the filter name window
  • Empty window next to "contains" type "*****SPAM*****"
  • In the bottom window put a check mark next to "move to folder"
  • Click on the drop down menu to the right
  • Point to "local folders"
  • Click on "Spam"
  • Click "OK"
  • Highly the new filter rule
  • Click "Run Now"
  • Close the window

After applying these rules, anything our server tags as possible spam will be moved to the spam filter we created.  You can then look through them to make sure that nothing is tagged incorrectly and delete the rest.
